How Hail Can Damage a Roof

Hail stones can impact shingles causing craters which can fracture asphalt, leading to granule loss and potential leaks. It's important to have this addressed early to prevent long term damages and potential difficulties with home insurance down the road.

Photo example right: Ridge cap shingles which have been impacted by hail stones. Stones large enough can create small holes in the ridge leading to leaks in the attic space and interior of home.

Our roof inspectors are HAAG certified and highly experienced at assessing hail damage accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my insurance cover this?

Homeowners insurance typically covers damage caused by hail damage to the roof. However, it's important to have professionals on your side conduct an analysis to determine the extent of damage, if any at all, before filing a claim.

How much will this cost?

Your only cost is your deductible, the rest being paid by insurance. If your roof is impacted by hail and has damage, it will need to be replaced in the future. If you pay for it out of pocket it could be over $20,000. Your deductible will be a far lower cost, typically $500 to $2,500. We can also break your deductible into low, affordable monthly installments if necessary.

Will this make my insurance premiums go up?

While we can't speak on behalf of your insurance company, typically a claim filed on a weather event does not warrant an increase. However, rates do go up based on claims filed within a given area. For instance, you may not file a claim, but because some of your neighbors did, your rates go up anyway. From what we have seen this is rare, and typically homeowners do not see an increase at all.

Who will do the work if my insurance approves a new roof?

If your insurance approves our estimate, you’re free to choose any contractor you want. We don’t lock you into a contract upfront. However, if we invest our time and expertise to help get your roof approved, most homeowners feel it’s only fair to trust us with the work.

How much time do I have to file a claim?

It depends, but typically you have a maximum of 1 year from the storm date. The farther away the date gets from when it happened, the harder it is to get it approved. The best time was yesterday, but the next best time is today.
